On the occasion of International Women’s Day this year, the Ministry of public Administration and Local Self-Government will be proud to host a special Wikimedia editorial marathon dedicated to important Serbian women, organized in collaboration with Wikimedia Serbia and the Swedish Embassy. At the Serbia-Korea Information and Access Center in Belgrade, the event was opened by the deputy Ambassador of Sweden, Mr. Joakim Vern, followed by the editorial part of the event. After the editorial marathon, all participants, as well as partners and associates, were invited to a cocktail where the results will be presented. The host of the cocktail will be his Excellency Mr. Jan Lundin, Ambassador of Sweden, who, together with Equality Protection Commissioner Brankica Jankovic, will address the importance of such an initiative. In 2020, in the days immediately before and after March 8, International Women’s Day, events will be organized in more than 50 countries in collaboration with local organizations. Wikipedia is the world’s largest online encyclopedia, yet there is no balance in the number of articles about men and women. The Wikigap campaign seeks to reduce the current gap. Recent research has shown that there are 35,410 articles about men on Wikipedia, while the number is much smaller when it comes to women’s biographies – 8,303. If we compare the statistics from June 2016, when the percentage of female CVs compared to male CVs was ~ 17.7%, it can be seen that the ratio was positively changed by 1.29%, but that there is still a lot of work for organizations, Embassies and the community
